Who are the best authors of romantic novels?
Posted on September 20th, 2009 by admin
I’m just beginning to read romantic novels. To be honest, the steamier the better. So far I have read some Carly Phillips ones, as well as a Susan Andersen one. Any other authors that are both easy to find at your average store and really good (aka hot)? Also, it has to be modern/current, I’m not really into the knights or cowboys of the Wild West etc. Let me know, thanks!
PS Specific books (if they are really easy to find right now) are fine to mention too.
Well if you like the style of Susan Andersen’s writing then you’d really like Jennifer Crusie. Her female characters are sarcastic and witty. Her heroines normally have a really strong group of female friends where they play the role of the ‘practical one.’ So usually the story is about the herione’s encounter with a dashing male that makes her feel very UNpractical.
My favourite Jennifer Crusie novel is called "Bet Me." It’s about Minerva, a grumpy, starving actuary, and Cal, a very charming… well he’s a lot of things. Anyways, this is one of my favourite romance novels.
But some other Jennifer Crusie novels I would recommend are: "Faking It" and "Fast Women."
I also like Lori Foster. She’s an interesting romance novelist because she probably does a better job of writing her male characters. Foster is able to write the earthy sexuality of a man in a way that is normally not conveyed in most romance novels. She has a couple of books about a very dominant (especially in the bedroom), manly character who try to find the balance between protecting ‘his woman’ :p and being nurtured by her. But if this kind of dominance struggle is your thing then you might want to check out the "Wildly Winston" anthology. It’s 4 short stories, and each story focused on a different Winston brother meeting his match.
As far as sex goes, Lori Foster’s "Too Much Temptation" is pretty hot. It’s basically about this guy Noah who ends his engagement because he finds his prissy fiancee with another man. After ending the relationship he really just wants to let loose and get laid. And the first woman he runs into is Grace, his grandmother’s shy assistant.
I’m including both Jennifer Crusie’s and Lori Foster’s websites where you can actually read samples from the books I mentioned to see if you’ll like them. Enjoy!

Some of my favorite "really good" authors are Diana Palmer,Gina Wilkins, Fayrene Preston, Susan Grant, Linda Howard and Nora Roberts. It should be very easy to get books by these award-winning authors. Enjoy.

Well I mainly prefer light-hearted teen romance books but try Erin McCarthy for some great and fairly steamy adult books…
