What are some really good romance books for girls ages 12-15?

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by admin

I love books but i dont know what books to get. I mostly want to read romance though. Help?

Catherine, Called Birdy by Karen Cushman is set in the medieval ages, where Catherine’s greedy father wants her to marry someone in order to make money off of her (as was customary). But if she has anything to say about it, she’ll marry someone because of love, not money. Very funny but the language is old-fashioned.
A more modern version of this would be by Louise Rannison and her hit series, The Confessions of Georgia Nickelson. Book 1 in this series (Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging) is basically about her life in present-day England, trying to get Robbie the Sex God to finally notice her for the right reasons.
If these novels seem like your cup of tea, Janette Rallison has two very funny novels: Fame, Glory and Other Things On My Too-Do List…and It’s a Mall World After All. The latter is the best in my opinion. All of these books are hilarious and very believable, and feature mild romance.

If you’ve read Twilight or appreciate the latest craze in vampire novels, these books would be good for you. The Night World Trilogy by L.J. Smith is a collection of three short stories per. book about a secret society called Night World, where vampires, witches, and other mythical creatures walk about us unknown. The rules are harsh and strict, but the two main ones are a) do not tell a human of your existence and b) do not have any relationship with a human. This is what happens when one breaks the rules.
Vampire Diaries by the same author is set in a different world, and is very similar to Twilight.
Vampire Academy (Richelle Mead) is one of the more believable vampire stories out there, but don’t make the two main characters your role models or you will be in a lot of trouble.

If you read books about everyday people your age or older, perhaps the Gallagher Girl Series is for you. The first novel (I’d Tell You That I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You – Ally Carter) is about a girl who goes to a secret academy for female spies, but on a mission falls in love with an average boy. Wanting to interact with him she convinces her friends to help her meet him in secret.
An even more realistic novel might be Just Listen by Sara Dessen. Her novels tend to be very good and she creates a very good picture. Outdated but still great is The Face On the Milk Carten by Caroline B. Cooney. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is another must-read. Guitar Girl (Sarra Manning) is about a young girl who wants to be in a band and how her life soon falls apart under the pressure of fame.

Shannon Hale (The Goose Girl) and Zoe Marriott (Swan Kingdom) are two authors that rewrote old fairy tales and made them much different. They are very similar but I love them both.

Some of my favorite books would be the ones listed here, like Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. The book is about a girl called Aislinn (ASH-ling) who has lived her life with the Sight – inherited from her mother and grandmother. It is the gift of seeing fairies. It is frightening, for these fairies are far from the civilized ones we read about. Then two of them, Court fairies, no less, start stalking her, and she needs to find out what they want before it becomes too late for her.
Another one like it is The Summoning by Kelly Armstrong. It’s hard to describe but is mostly about a young girl who wakes up one morning with her period and the ability to see ghosts. Very freaky. Love is Hell is a bunch of short stories featuring this author.
Uglies (Scott Westerfeld) and it’s follow-ups, Pretties, Specials and Extras, are about a society in the future where looks mean everything. And when Tally Youngblood is told she may stay ugly forever, she may have to betray a friend and countless others in order to fit into her world. Hard to get into the worth the read.
Finally, another book set in the future, is Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. A fabulous book. Read it if you read nothing else!

Non-romantic books to read would include The Youngest Spy – Barry McDivitt and The Clique – Lisi Harrison. Hope this helps you!

Defiantly try Carolyn Mackler. Her books are romantic comedies. She got me hooked on books when i was about 13. Also Sarah Dessen. She might be a little older but her stories are amazing. Those are my two favs, but here are some other authors that you might enjoy.
    E. Lockhart
    Robynn Clairday
    Ann Brashares
    Sarra Manning
    Sarah Mlynowski

Also just go to your local Booksamillion or Barnes and Noble or any book store and look in the Young Adult section.

For a young adult/teen Meg Cabot’s young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), All-American Girl (up coming movie), Jinx, Airhead and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her.
